Past Research

The Astereae Working Group is an international group of botanists who are interested in collaborative studies of the phylogeny, biology, and biogeography of the Astereae Tribe of the Asteraceae. The Astereae is one of the largest tribes of the Asteraceae including over 200 genera and 3000 species. The tribe is worldwide in distribution with large numbers of taxa in North America, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and southern Africa. An immediate goal of the working group is to complete a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the tribe. The phylogeny can then be used to analyze morphological and ecological variation and evolution, biogeographic relationships including tribal origin and subsequent radiation, generic delimitation, and subtribal classification. All interested scientists are welcome to join and participate in the group.
