Using Our Online Database

ARCTOS is a database platform for structuring, integrating, and making accessible the rich data embodied by natural history collections. Arctos is a scalable community solution for managing and publishing natural history and linking data for research and education. Biodiversity informatics enables high quality research and Arctos supports and enhances the Digital Extended Specimen concept. Arctos is a community of practice that aims to improve data discovery and enabling cross-disciplinary, integrative studies and authentic educational experiences. Arctos now includes over 5 million diverse objects held in 330 collections by 57 institutions from 7 countries (China, Ecuador, Ireland, Japan, Madagascar, Portugal, and USA; Cicero et al., 2024) and is interoperable with BerkeleyMapper, GenBank, IsoBank, and GoogleEarth.
